I'll be leaving DBS HR this week, 29th will be my last day. Ya, it was suppose to be until end of july but after giving it some thought, it would be too tiring for me to have 3 nights of lesson every week at Clementi & everyday's job. So I told my supervisor before I even leave for my USA trip. Her reply was "Huh.. Dun wan la.. 3 nights only, can de la. I dun have time to teach new girl, later anyhow do for me." So sianz lor.. After I came back from USA trip, I smsed my supervisor in the afternoon and told her I really need to quit. And she agreed!! Yeah!!! And it is confirmed, coz Kelly Services also informed me. The new temp staff who will be taking over me will be coming this wed. Gotta teach her all the necessary stuffs which I think it wont take long. Is easy. Besides me, 3 others staffs also leaving - Cindy, Gina & Lynette. All going to SIM also. So our sweet colleagues actually organized a small farewell party or rather farewell lunch for us. A mini buffet with food bought from different locations, but all were tasty. Hehe..

Thanks Hui Fang for doing the kick start of this farewell party. Thanx Vanessa for organizing for the whole thing. Thanx Hui Jun & Cindy (funny she kenna grab to help out also) for the cocktail. Thanx Vanessa, Sara, Huifang & Grace for getting the food. Thanx to the rest for preparing the rest of the necessary materials. Have so much fun & laughter during the short 1 hr lunch coz need to get out of the meeting room by then.

The 4 girls who are leaving
The people who helped in the farewell lunch

I may be so eager to quit but on the other hand, I'm gonna miss it alot. I'll miss Japan Airline aka June Ho. The one who calls me "不咸" & "Miss Not So Salty". I'll miss going to lunch with the girls everyday in such a big group of at least 6. I'll miss going to work with Hui Jun & always going to toilet & pantry with her. I'll miss going to May & Cindy's desks to remind them is time for lunch. I'll miss talking to Vanessa everyday. Ever since I've shifted to the desk opposite her, I couldnt stop talking & laughing. She's such a fun person. A very "child-like" mum of 2. I can't help to say but if there's nobody sitting opposite her, she's gonna miss me even more. Hehe..

USA Trip

It's been almost a month since I last blog. Basically the 1st 2 weeks of June I was in USA with my family. Was too tired to blog about the 11 days tour with Chan Brothers. Took 1000 over photos and about 7 hrs of video. The flight was about 18hrs. Transit at Japan on our way to USA and at Korea on our way back home. Now then I know transit is so rush. Come down from the plane, visit the toilet, shop for 15mins and you are to queue and get back on board the plane again. Seriously I'm not sure how to start the ball rolling for this entry. Let's see...

Well, arrived at Los Angeles at about 12pm USA time (1st June), which is 3am Singapore time (2nd June). Weather was cool & nice. About 15 to 20 degree Celsius. 1st day was slack, check in to Wyndham Hotel & went to walk around. They have so much land that they have 4 lanes on the road (i think), so spacious, each restaurant/cafe has its own big & tall sign on the walkway. Bought lots of mineral water from the Supermarket. Had dinner at "In & Out" which sells huge burgers. Went back to hotel & made some call back to Singapore since we had our World Card & dad's IDD. Bet some of them were surprised. Anyway, the hotel room at Wyndham Hotel looks like the one I stayed in Hong Kong almost a yr ago. Actually not that bad la, alittle bit more upgraded version. All of us were so tired that we just slept almost immediately we touch the bed. But because of jet lag, my parents & sis woke up at about 2am and couldnt slp after that. As for me, I slept all the way till morning. Hehe..

2nd day was at Disneyland/California Adventure Park. There were 3 other families who joined us just today coz they travelled by North West instead of SQ. The outside area is about the same as the one in Hong Kong. Though there were already queues, our tour manager told us that that is not a crowd. Our tour manager, Joek, brought us to the most popular rides and the characters' houses. Speaking of rides, my mum was worried all the time for my dad. Guess some of you know, my dad went for heart operation last july so he was not suppose to have his heart work too much. Taking those thrilling/speedy/jerky rides was suppose to be out for him but dad kept insisting it was alrite. We were hesitant to let him take those rides but somehow we let him take some of the rides. These rides he took were speedy, jerky. Thrilling was nono at all. We were so worried that we kept telling him to be prepared for anything that may shock him, held him while taking the rides. Then it was like looking after 2 "babies", my sis & dad. Haha.. They cant look after each other during rides since one a little young, the other not so fit. Bought lots of things from Disneyland. Fireworks were supposed to be on that night but due to the weather condition, it was cancelled. It was too windy. Everyone went back to Hotel in disappointment. You know how to spot typical singaporeans? When you see a crowd suddenly rush for somethings. Haha.. We were waiting for shuttle bus back to our hotel and because the bus is small and there were only 2 with so many of us to accomodate, everyone rushed to it before the bus could actually stop completely. Really typical singaporeans.

3rd day was at Universal Studio. That is definitely a great place to go. Really worth going. An eye opener. Much better than the one in Australia which I went years back. We went for the Studio Tour where all of us sat in the tram and toured round the filming studios. The area was huge. Lots of houses and streets for their filming. You know Desperate Housewives? Their houses were at the Studio. We were also showed the King Kong, the floods, rain, how they film Jaws, experience earthquake with the ceiling falling down, fall cracking, planes crashing. There were rides over there too. Watch a few 3D & 4D shows. Was good too. You have things poking at your back, "bugs" crawling under your buttocks, smelling bugs' fart, etc... Went to Hollywood Blvd after that and were kenna tricked. There was this woman dressed in "Wonder Woman" costume and ask my sis if wanna take pic with her. So just take lor. When we about to leave, the woman asked for some money. If knew earlier, wouldnt haf taken the pic.

4th day we check out of our hotel & proceed to Las Vegas. Our 1st shopping outlet was good. I thought it was those warehouse shopping but it's just like any other shopping centre just that it has a bigger shop for a brand. However due to time constraint we were only given about 1 hr 15mins. Don't have much time to shop, so we see ok, just decide quickly and buy liao. In the end, we even took a bag of clothes from Guess which doesnt belong to us. It so happen that all were men's clothing so dad tried them and all fit. However, we returned it back to our tour manager coz he did us the following day if anyone took a bag of clothes from Guess which doesnt belongs to them. There are about 14 families in our tour group, at least 7 families bought a new Samsonite luggage. 1stly, not enough to put their new stuffs. 2ndly, is so much cheaper that Singapore. Buy 2 and you get 50% off for the 2nd luggage. So we shared with others lor. Las Vegas was hot. About 40 to 41 degree Celsius. It was like oven. Did another round of shopping at our 2nd shopping outlet. This time round, it was bigger and were given slightly much more time to shop. And things there were really cheap for the branded goods. We bought Levis as though it was free. We only paid about S$50 per jeans. Cheap right? Timberland was also cheap. The shoes we bought only cost us about S$40 to S$50 per pair, Singapore sell the same pair for $100. Everyone came back with lots of paper bags on their hands. Went for night tour, really a casino town. You can see casinos everywhere. Every 5 steps you can see another casino. The hotels at Las Vegas are really nice, grand & unique. They actually have some hotels which have rollercoaster round it. Hotels with really nice ceiling, used fresh flowers & fruits to decorate its lobby area. Limousines are everywhere, different sizes. After seeing 1 or 2, spotting the next one is really a no big thing for us already. Checked into Stratosphere Hotel at night.

5th day had our own breakfast at McDonalds. It is kinda different. They have this special breakfast meal call "Deluxe". It's a combination of hotcakes & big breakfast. Went to Grand Canyon for the helicopter and boat ride to see the rocks/mountains. 1st time taking the helicopter, nice experience of 30mins. I got the chance to sit both at the front (to take the boat ride) & the back (to go back where we started). It was more scary to sit at the front coz you get to see more things below you. Because it was so windy, you can actually see sand flying around you. Worse of all, our lunch was in the open, at the cliff. The wind was so strong that you have to hold the paper plate while you eat. My salad actually flew off. To top it off, we had extra ingredient of sand for our meal. Imagine how much sand we breathe in & swallowed. My comb was dirty after one comb down my hair. Disgusting... We went for the Skywalk which was only 2 to 3 months old. Is a U-shaped sticking out of the cliff, glass as the base for you to walk. So you can see what is beneath you (which is seeing no end beneath you). If the glass breaks, you will can say bye bye to this world. Think they over publicise coz it wasnt that fantastic as what all of us expected. It was not that wide, area wasnt tat big. Visited Hoover Dam too. Construction is still in progress. At night, I went to watch Jubilee (Topless show) with dad, and some other tour group members. All of us were dozing off during the show. Can you imagine how tired we were? So tired that even topless girls couldnt keep us awake. Haha.. But ya, it was nice. The costumes, the backdrops are really beautiful.

6th day, we checked out of Stratosphere Hotel and proceed to Fresno. I'm not quite sure where it is on the world map, only know there are plantations over there. On our way, we did our 3rd shopping at another factory outlet. It was bigger and buying things were once again very rush. Temperature suddenly dropped to 12 to 15 degrees. Had buffet dinner and checked into a motel, Quality Inn. Only 2 storeys high. I'm not sure was it that cold in the evening or is it of my fever that made me feel really cold. Ya, I had fever but it was gone the next day. Think was partly caused by my gastric pain which I had since day 4. It lasted all the way till I reach Singapore.
7th day, breakfast at the restaurant next to our motel. Joek told us that people living here do things very slowly, at their own pace so asked us be patient with them & don't rush them. Indeed it's true. The moment the waiter start to get gan jiong, he started to shake and panick. We checked out of Quality Inn and proceed to San Francisco, our last stop for our USA tour. On our way, we bought some fruits and goodies at their marketplace. Visited the Old Fishermen's Wharf. Joek was telling us that everyone do things slowly. Indeed they were coz they were walking slowly, even the cars were moving slowly. Haha.. Went through the 17 mile drive at Pebble Beach. Visited the Lodge & Pebble Beach Golf Links. Nice place. Golf course just beside the sea. Lots of pretty flowers over there too. 1st time in our life that we saw my dad was so fascinated with the flowers that he took almost all the different species of flowers. Finally reached the town of San Francisco where we were introduced to the Golden Gate & Bay Bridge. We checked into Parc 55 Hotel after our dinner. It was a 5 star hotel. My family waited for half an hour before we got our rooms. We were so lucky. One of the room was at the corner, bigger room with a king size bed. Of coz, that room belongs to my mum & sis lor. The bed was so soft & bouncy, one bed 5 pillows, blanket so soft. So comfy.. Hehe.. Mum was saying staying at this hotel only for 2 nights so wasted. Haha..

8th day, our last day. Breakfast was Dim Sum.. Yum yum.. 1st thing we did was "exercise". We went to see the crooked street but before we do so, we need to climb up the steep slopes. And boy was it steep. But we made it to the top anyhow. The crooked street is just like the "S-course" when you learn driving inside the circuit. Just that the "S-course" is on the slope. Joek brought us to Fishermen's Wharf, Pier 39 to take a ferry ride. It was so windy and cold that my face & hands felt numb. Not forgetting that I became "merdusa" coz my hair was flying all over. You could see the fog coming and within a few seconds, the scenary was covered by the fog. We got the chance to walk a little bit of the Golden Gate as well. Twin Peak was next where you can see the whole of San Francisco. But you gotta be quick with your cameras because the fog comes very quickly and all you can take is just blurry buildings. That was the end of our tour by Joek coz for the rest of the late afternoon till night, it was free & easy. So since this was the last chance for the whole group to be together, my family suggested to have a group shot. Captain Ho (our driver) dropped us at the Civic Center for a nice shot. And guess who was our camera man? Joek lor. He was practically like a tree with lots of camera on his branches. Should have taken a pic of that but ya, all of our cameras were with him. Anyway, after the shot, went to Union Square and shop. I just love USA la coz I can find my shoes so easily. I can try any kind of shoes over there without any trouble. Sure have my size de. So happy. Hehe.. However, shopping at San Francisco is not that cheap as compared to the previous factory outlets we went. Bags cost US$82 on the average. Night came once again & we decided to end our shopping. Since we were so exhausted, decided to just packed Burger King & have it back in our hotel rooms. But we couldnt find our hotel. Despite with the map we have, we got lost about an hour coz we went round and round the hotel. The buildings over there look about the same and the road names, some not stated in the map.
9th day, had chinese breakfast and we were on our own again for the morning before we meet at 10.45am at hotel lobby. My family went back to Union Square to take some pictures. Told ourselves not to buy anything but in the end, we went back to hotel with bags of goodies again. Quickly go back to hotel & pack the stuffs into our luggages before the porter come and bring our luggages down. Tried to open the rooms but it seems that we were checked out already coz none of our cards could access the rooms. No choice but to contact the lobby desk and had them to help us open. Other than those families who took North West & those who are flying off to other places, the rest of families gathered at hotel lobby with all the luggages getting ready to head off to San Francisco Airport. Ya, 9 days gone in a flash. End of our USA tour. On the way to airport, Joek came to my sister and said, "wah.. got chicken little stamp on my envelope ah." Coz in the morning, everyone was supposed to put the tips for Joek in an envelope and pass it to him. Sis wrote a letter to him on behalf for us & drew a chicken little face on the envelope. Why chicken little? Joek made fun of my sis & said she look like chicken little when she smile. Haha. But Joek was really happy to receive the letter coz he kept slapping my sis's arm away.

Took the new 777 plane back to Singapore. More spacious, monitor screen was bigger, clearer, usage of MS office. You can insert your own thumbdrive too but only to view documents and not pictures. Travelling back was faster. Arrived Singapore on 11th June at about 12plus am. Took a maxi cab back home. We didnt go to sleep till 4plus am. And for the next few days, I was tired by the time it is 8pm. Jet lag...

Really enjoyed the trip. Definitely worth it. Maybe because we very lucky to have a very good tour manager & also tour group members. Everyone was punctual, as such, we got to see more things & shop a little more. My family was lucky in this trip. 1st night, pick up US$4 in the hotel room when we shift the bed, pick up some coins along the way on our tour. And the Guess bag incident mentioned earlier, but ya, things were given back.
